One of the boron compounds is sodium perborate tetrahydrate(NaBO3.4H2O), which the most widely used solid peroxygencompounds. It is used in safety bleach formulations, detergentsand tooth powders. As known these products are commonly usedin daily life. However, the actions on blood antioxidant defensesof sodium tetraborate against reactive oxygen species are notidentified yet. It is reported that oxidative stress caused by ROSdamages. In this study, we searched enzyme activities of superoxide dis-mutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione-S-transferase (GST),glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px)and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) also the effectsodium perborate tetra hydrate on activities of these enzymesfrom human erythrocyte under in vitro conditions. According toour findings sodium perborate tetrahydrate caused significant(p<0.05) increasing in the CAT activity from red blood cell. The other antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD, GST, GR, GSH-Px and G6PD) did not show any changing by influence ofsodium perborate tetrahydrate.
